Learn the secrets of the city’s past at the Atlanta History Center

2263

A lot of exciting changes are happening at this Buckhead museum. A 2016 renovation gave the main building a beautiful new facade, and it inherited the Cycolorama—an early 20th-centry painting that depicts the Battle of Atlanta—and the Texas—a train best known for being involved in the 1862 Great Locomotive Chase of the Civil War—from their former home in Grant Park. But beyond the Civil War artifacts, the museum is home to rotating exhibits on everything from the founders who created Atlanta to golf icon Bobby Jones, and the stunning Swan Coach House, an 89-year-old mansion that you might recognize as President Snow’s abode in the Hunger Games films. Be sure to grab a bowl of My Dad’s Turkey Chili from Souper Jenny, a local lunch spot that moved to the museum’s front lobby in 2017. 130 West Paces Ferry Road, 404-814-4000, atlantahistorycenter.com
