Brewers and craft beer lovers alike celebrated when Atlanta finally shed its archaic brewery laws in 2017, allowing breweries to sell their beer directly to customers rather than just offering tours with a “gift.” If you want to sample several different beers without worrying about your car, head to Avondale Estates, where there are three craft breweries next to the Avondale MARTA station. Try Belgian-inspired brews at Three Taverns Craft Beers’ aged-wood Parlour; and make sure to take founder and natural storyteller Brian Purcell’s tour, when he explains how it all began on a European road trip. On the same side of the street, stop by BlueTarp Brewing Company for sours and ales with snarky names like “Go Funk Yourself Brett IPA.” End the evening just up the road at Wild Heaven Beer’s airy warehouse with a party atmosphere, where you can sip cult favorite Emergency Drinking Beer and a mix of seasonal fruit-forward pours.
