New co-chairs announced for 18th annual fashionista fund-raiser Fashion Cares

For months, the city’s socialites have been salivating, waiting for the official word of a 2010 Jeffrey Fashion Cares.

This week, organizers have officially confirmed that, yes indeed, there will be an 18th annual installment of the popular fashion show fund-raiser founded by Atlanta and New York retailer Jeffrey Kalinsky.

With the continuing economic slump (not to mention a now-former decidedly divisive diva co-chair who polarized some long-time supporters),  the existence of a Fashion Cares 2010 had been in question.

The benefit raises much-needed money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure-Greater Atlanta Affiliate and the Atlanta AIDS Partnership Fund.

But when we saw long-time Fashion Cares queen Lila Hertz at our recent Atlanta magazine Best of Atlanta party at the Cobb Galleria, she told us privately that exciting plans were afoot for a brand-new edition of the fashion forward fundraiser.

In her eighth year as co-chair, Hertz will be joined by a pair of formidable fellow co-chairs for the August 30 event:   Turner Broadcasting executive Louise Sams and Vis-a-vis Salon owner Jeffrey McQuithy.

While it hasn’t been announced officially as yet, Intel can report that Spanx founder Sara Blakely will be the 2010 Fashion Cares honorary chair.

The venue for this year’s Fashion Cares has yet to be announced, meanwhile.

The fashion show fundraiser’s previous home was the now-financially troubled Allen Plaza downtown, the brainchild of Atlanta developer Hal Barry and Fashion Cares supporter.

Organizers tell us that a new location for the event is set to be announced in the coming weeks.
