Kasim Reed accepted a check for $7,674 last night at the grand opening of the Real Chow Baby‘s Highlands location. The money will go to Reed’s Centers of Hope.

Once he heard CNN would donate $1 per every CNN Tour to the parks and rec initiative, Chow Baby owner Chip Joyner decided to donate one nickel for every bowl of stir fry made in the restaurant’s Westside location. Reed is an old friend of Joyner’s; the two attended Howard together.

After accepting the check, Reed joked, “This restaurant is going to thrive, because I am going to help it; I eat a lot.”

in addition to offering the standard stir fry for which its Howell Mill location is best known, the new Ponce spot will sell signature dishes by chefs Shaun Doty (Yeah! Burger), Alex Friedman (P’cheen), Reggie Washington (Rolling Bones BBQ), and Keira Moritz (Pacci).
