Screams of excitement were broadcast live on Q100’s Bert Show Monday morning as co-host Jenn Hobby was selected from thousands of national radio women as a Top Ten finalist for the “Live! With Regis & Kelly” guest co-host search.
“The Women of Radio Co-Host for a Day Search” finalist will sit in live with broadcast legend Regis Philbin when Kelly Ripa goes on vacation later this month.
Other Atlanta broadcasters who entered the contest included Dave FM’s Mara Davis and B98.5 FM’s Vikki Locke.
Along with Hobby, another former Atlanta radio personality, Shannon Murphy (once heard on Star 94’s short-lived Morning Mess) has made it into the Top Ten. Murphy now works for the Mojo in the Morning show at Channel 95.5 FM in Detroit.
Q100 listeners can vote once a day for Hobby now through Wednesday at 9 p.m. at the “Live! With Regis & Kelly” contest page.
Following the announcement made live on air by Ripa and CNN anchor Anderson Cooper (who was filling in for Philbin Monday), Hobby thanked listeners on her Facebook page, posting “So excited!”
Intel’s take after viewing Hobby’s video entry on the Live! With Regis & Kelly” website?
Hobby has definitely done her homework for the prospective gig.
“I would love the opportunity to sit next to someone I respect so much,” she explains in the clip, adding she’d also love to do a cooking segment involving bacon.
Anyone who routinely watches “Live!” knows Reege loves fawning younger women in the chair next to him and hates doing cooking segments.
For good measure, the ever-savvy Hobby namedropped the veteran talk show host’s favorite singer.
Says Hobby in the clip: “I’d love to ask Regis about his love of Dean Martin!”
“I’m hoping that reference makes a difference,” Hobby told us. “We interviewed Regis a couple of years ago and we noticed he was playing Dean Martin music. He told us that’s how he fires himself up before the show.”
Hobby says they’ll be talking up the online voting over the next few days on air and Q100 is sending out email and social media blasts to listeners as well.
Plus, Hobby has one more secret weapon working behind the scenes for her.
“My mom is an elementary school principal,” she spills. “I’m pretty sure the school kids in St. Petersburg, Florida have an extra assignment today!”
