A word of warning: If you’re shopping anywhere that sells toys in the Midtown and Downtown areas this Sunday afternoon, be mindful of the holiday-attired individuals charging in for a last minute gift.

Each year, the absent-minded attending the annual Toy Party, benefiting the non-profit For The Kid In All Of Us, descend on stores to load up on donations prior to the start of the 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. cocktail party returning this year to the Americas Mart 3 atrium space on Spring Street downtown.

Started eight years ago by now-District 6 Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan and his friends, the party collects unwrapped toys with a value of $20 or more for local underprivileged families.

Your $20 toy also serves as your admission to the holiday bash, this year featuring D.J. Vicki Powell. The toys will be donated to 20 non-profit agencies in the metro area helping families in need this holiday season.

More than $75,000 worth of silent auction items have already been donated for this year’s event.
Organizers are hoping to top last year’s totals when 4,200 attendees hauled in more than 5,000 toys in just four hours. An additional $20,000 was raised via cash donations.

If you can’t make the party this year, local businesses are supplying drop off boxes for your convenience. Toy Party sponsor Atlanta Classic Cars in Duluth, meanwhile, is  hoping to fill a convertible full of toys by Sunday. Gift-givers can drop off toys at Atlanta Classic Cars’ 1705 Boggs Road location in Duluth.
