Two poems for Natasha Trethewey, our new poet laureate

Today the Library of Congress named Pulitzer Prize-winning Emory University Professor Natasha Trethewey our nation’s 19th poet laureate. I’m having difficulty expressing my feelings in prose, so I wrote two poems for her.

There once was a poet in Decatur
Whose dominion grew greater and greater
The Pulitzer Prize
Now Poet Laureate, you guys
At this rate soon she’ll be a dictator

Just in case she’s not a fan of limericks, I wrote her a haiku, too:

Poet Natasha
Congratulaureations
I hear you get a stipend
