Atlanta Magazine’s April 2021 Issue

A note from Sean McGinnis, President & Publisher:

The Atlanta real estate market is hot! In this April issue of Atlanta magazine we talk about the metrics behind Atlanta’s residential real estate market, look into what’s driving record home prices and low inventory, and spotlight some of Atlanta’s most popular new developments.

To start, this issue visits with CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse, the duo better known as Gnarles Barkley, as it’s been fifteen years since their act took the Atlanta music scene by storm. Other topics covered in this issue’s “Connector” include repealing Georgia’s citizen’s arrest law, and a look at Underground Atlanta’s new owner and plans for its future. In our Food & Dining section, this month’s “Bite” pages offer up a first look at new restaurants Baffi, Ford’s BBQ, and Scoville Hot Chicken.

In our Real Estate feature, we discuss how, despite the grip of the pandemic, last year’s Atlanta home sales volume was estimated to be $3 billion greater than in 2019. But one lingering effect of the pandemic is that many Atlantans have fallen behind on either rent or mortgage payments. Exacerbated by Atlanta’s well-publicized income gap, the challenge for housing equality remains steady across the metro area.

This feature also shares the stories of several Atlanta families that have chosen very diverse paths with their new home purchases, including intown condo living, a suburban farm, a master-planned community that caters to the creative set, and even a family who turned in their house for an RV and decided to use the lockdown of the pandemic to travel.

Additionally, the real estate package looks at topics like the evolution of the BeltLine, Atlanta’s “satellite cities,” big ideas to watch in 2021, housing density, and much more.

We wrap up the April issue with the fascinating tale of the Golden Ray, the container ship that was capsized off of Georgia’s coast in September 2019. Crews have been busy at work since then dismantling the ship and removing its cargo of 4,200 automobiles, all while allowing container traffic to continue in and out of the Port of Brunswick.
