At least 30,000 attendees will jet in for the seventeenth annual Pure Heat Community Festival, Atlanta’s black gay pride event held at venues across the city. Pure Heat co-coordinator Avian Watson provided a preview.

Obama campaign setting up shop on Auburn Ave.

The historic Sweet Auburn corridor will get an infusion of energy over the next six months as the Obama presidential reelection campaign sets up its Georgia headquarters at 171 Auburn Avenue. Having such a high-profile tenant in the area will bring much-needed attention to the struggling historic district. This is especially critical this year as work is underway on the new streetcar line that will run along the street, and civic leaders look for ways to revitalize the surrounding area.

The previously untold story of Freda Kelly, the Liverpool teen who became the Fab Four’s secretary, bowed on British television Tuesday night, and on Friday Good Ol' Freda returns to White’s hometown for one last 2013 theatrical run at The Plaza Theatre.
