Interior designer Michelle Workman's clients have included John Travolta and Kirstie Alley, but now she left Hollywood so her family could experience small-town life on a 13-acre farm on Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

At Alys Beach, every design decision begins with the view. Both floorplans and furniture selections aim to maximize the vista beyond the windows. Whitewashed architecture, understated landscaping, and a turquoise ocean have become the hallmarks of this upscale Florida Panhandle community.

House Beautiful’s Whole Home Concept House, which opens tomorrow in Brookhaven, is the first custom house the media brand has ever built, accomplished it with local talent of Atlanta builder Michael Ladisic, architect Linda MacArthur, interior designer Sherry Hart, and kitchen and bath designer Matthew Quinn. The house also marks the end of the Sophie Dow Donelson era of the magazine.

After renovation, this 1920 Virginia-Highland home, which is within walking distance of Piedmont Park, grew to twice its original footprint.

Perhaps it wasn’t fair to ask architect William H. Harrison to pick his favorite house. After all, Harrison Design recently published a glossy coffee table book with more than 400 spectacular images to mark the firm’s 25th anniversary. But this house completed in 2001 is, at least, his sentimental favorite.

Niko Rigney and Jon Boykin knew they wanted to marry their affinities for Japanese wabi-sabi, Scandinavian design, street art, punk rock, and gaming (both the video and board varieties) in their new three-story townhouse in Reynoldstown. But pulling it off in an elevated fashion was a different matter.

With its unconventional angles and assortment of exterior finishes, the towering four-story contemporary home at 2496 Oostanaula Drive in Brookhaven stands out among its neighbors—but it won’t for long.
