Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival this Sunday


They’re big, red, and juicy and headed straight for Atlanta.

The fourth annual JCT Kitchen Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival is this Sunday, July 22, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Chefs, farmers, and mixologists are banning together to benefit Georgia Organics and celebrate a dedication to locally grown produce.

Featured chefs will be paired with a local farmer to create a tomato dish for attendees to sample. For drinks, mixologists below will pour their own signature cocktails. Over thirty chefs and a dozen mixologists are set to participate, and if you take a look at the list of who’s coming, it’s packed with some pretty sweet guests. 4th and Swift, Aria, Bacchanalia, Canoe, Miller Union, and Rathbuns are just some of the restaurants that will be represented on Sunday. Guest judges such as actor David Miller who played Mason Dixon in the original Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movie and Esquire’s restaurant features writer John Mariani will be on hand to choose the best dish, beverage, and table decorations.

If the promise of eating in tomato heaven isn’t enticing enough, maybe the event’s live band is. Chef Zeb Stevenson (Proof & Provision), Ford Fry (The Optimist), Gary Mennie (High Cotton), Jamie Adams (Veni Vidi Vici), and Ted Lahey (Table & Main) are coming together for the third year as 5 Bone Rack. The chefs are dropping their knives and picking up guitars and drumsticks to perform classic rock covers. The story goes that Mennie and Stevenson first pitched the idea to play at the festival to Fry. Later on, Adams and Lahey joined the band.

Tickets are on sale and now cost $70 per person. Last year’s festival raised close to $40,000 for Georgia Organics.
