Congrats to Julia LeRoy and Kevin Gillespie

Mother Nature Network, the Atlanta-based environmental news site, has named 40 chefs under 40 that the company applauds for their commitment to local, from-the-farm ingredients. Two chefs from the ATL made the list, and though Kevin Gillespie’s grinning, red-bearded mug appears on the site’s home page, he’s not at the top of the list (he’s number six). Numero uno is Julia LeRoy of the Bookhouse Pub, which thrills me: LeRoy is deserving of more attention. Sure, Bookhouse is a casual place, but her Monday night “localvore menu” reflects the kind of culinary risk-taking and careful sourcing lots of Atlanta foodies value.

It upsets me when I stop in on Monday nights to find that no one else is taking advantage of the menu (it costs $35 and includes three courses). Here’s hoping MNN’s exposure brings her a crazy crowd this coming week. See you there.

(Pictured: Various “localvore” dishes I had this past summer. Dimly lit Bookhouse is not the ideal blog-pics venue. And thanks to James Oxendine for the FYI while my head was buried in editing).
