
It’s a sad week for local food lovers. Many popular area farmers markets pack it up for the season before Thanksgiving. So if you want fresh greens, local root vegetables or North Georgia apples on your Thanksgiving table, it’s time to grab your canvas bag and make one last trip to these markets:
Brookhaven Farmers Market: Relocated midseason from Chamblee, this market wraps up on Saturday with an expanded artists market. Get your Thanksgiving dinner and holiday gift shopping done in the same trip. 9am to 1pm. 1441 Dresden Drive
Dunwoody Green Market: This Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m., the market thanks its customers by offering free coffee and breakfast items (while they last). It will host one final market for the season on Nov. 23, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.—conveniently right before Thanksgiving. 1551 Dunwoody Village Parkway, Dunwoody
East Atlanta Farmers Market: This Thursday the market closes an hour early, at 7, to host a potluck “Giving Thanks Dinner” for customers. Highlights include live music, special dishes prepared by chef Steve Satterfield of Miller Union, and the annual turkey pardon. To participate in the potluck bring a dish, serveware and the recipe. Market opens at 4. 561 Flat Shoals Ave.
Grant Park Farmers Market: The Sunday mark celebrates the end of a hugely successful inaugural season with a potluck at the home of Curt and Christine Mann, 517 Broyles Street, from 3 to 6 p.m. last market of the season with a pot luck. Bring a dish, serveware and the recipe. Market is open 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, 600 Cherokee Ave.
Main Street Market: Another new market, Main Street Farmers Market in Douglasville, will mark its last event this Thursday, 3-7 p.m. O’Neal Plaza, 6695 Church St., Douglasville
Sandy Springs Farmers Market: The last market of the season is this 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. 235 Sandy Springs Circle NW, Sandy Springs.
Can’t make to any of these? Don’t worry; all hope is not lost. This markets are still going strong (for at least one more week):
Decatur Farmer Market: Open year-round Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
Emory Farmers Market: Operates 12-5 Tuesdays during the academic year. The market is closed during summer and during holidays.
Green Market at Piedmont Park: Open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 10.
Marietta Square Farmers Market: Marietta hosts markets 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays and 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sundays through November. City organizers have just announced that they’ve added a winter market in 2012. That market will run 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays from Jan. 7 to March 31.
Morningside Farmers Market: Open year-round on Saturday mornings.
Peachtree Road Farmers Market: The last market of the season—a special holiday affair—is set for Dec. 17.
