TED ALLEN
Food Network personality Ted Allen will do for Atlantans what he does on his shows Food Detectives and the upcoming Chopped: offer helpful tricks on how to excel in the kitchen. Visiting the city for Taste of Atlanta, Allen will hold a Q&A session with a select few about the ins and outs of wines and food preparation. All of this is in conjunction with the former Queer Eye kitchen expert’s affiliate program, Discover Wine, begun to introduce the average drinker to the nuances of good vino. Those who can’t snag invites to the guru’s seminar can check him out later this weekend at Taste as a part of Discover Wine.

Saturday, October 10
TASTE OF ATLANTA
Overtaking Tech Square in Midtown this Saturday and Sunday, Taste of Atlanta shows off the city’s culinary character. More than eighty of Atlanta’s restaurants will have tasting tents set up, a central cooking stage will showcase national and local celebrity chefs, a section with a farmers market will demonstrate the city’s emerging farm-to-table culture, stations will cater to kids’ whims, patrons will be able to whet their palates with beer and wine tastings, and music and entertainment waft through the festival. Participating restaurants include ONE Midtown Kitchen, Villa Vino, and Spice Market. Advance tickets cost $25; at the door, $30.

Sunday, October 11
FUNDRAISER FOR LOVE IS LOVE FARM
Last month’s flash floods destroyed Love Is Love Farm’s irrigation system. To help one of its suppliers of organic produce get back on its feet, Woodfire Grill will throw a fundraiser for the Douglasville farm this Sunday. The night will feature cocktails and a four-course dinner planned by Top Chef contestant Kevin Gillespie. Tickets cost $100 per person.

SUPPER CLUB
WaterHaven hosts this month’s Supper Club. Each month, a different Atlanta restaurant hosts the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s program. Twenty percent of the proceeds will go to the bank’s prepared food rescue project, Atlanta’s Table. Waterhaven’s menu includes shrimp and grit cakes along with Georgia trout with applewood smoked bacon.
