Urban Cookhouse, a sandwich-based chain out of Birmingham, will join Asheville-based Tupelo Honey Café and natural grocery Sprouts in the Sandy Springs Gateway complex on Roswell Road this spring.

An order-at-the-counter spot, Urban Cookhouse will serve salads, wraps, sandwiches, and “hot plates” featuring grilled and smoked meats cooked on the Big Green Egg. Highlights include chicken salad, a BALT (a BLT with avocado), and chipotle-braised pork. Appetizers and family dinners for four will also be available. For dessert, there’s a “half-baked” cookie served in a skillet with ice cream and chocolate syrup.

“It’s simple, traditional, American cooking,” owner Will Gillespie says (no relation to chef Kevin Gillespie).

The 4,000-square-foot space will seat 95 diners inside and about thirty outside. The bar will serve beer and wine by the glass, and the patio will have fire pits to keep guests warm during winter months.
