The name Second Self aptly describes this brewery’s approach to beer. Here, it’s all about the duality—styles you’ll recognize, with a complexity that can surprise you. The Thai Wheat is technically an American wheat beer, but fresh lemongrass and two types of ginger will have you raising your eyebrows and your glass. And the Red Hop Rye, with its balanced mix of citrus, piney hops, and caramel malts, will probably convert anybody who claims to dislike red ales. The tasting area is just steps away from the brewing space, offering a modern aesthetic with some wooden benches for seating. High ceilings make the brewhouse feel like an open space, despite its small size.

Good to Know: For about eight years, the goal of running a successful craft brewery was just a dream for Georgia Tech alumni Jason Santamaria and Chris Doyle. The frat brothers and one-time roommates became brewing partners after tinkering with a home brew kit, and they kept their dream alive while juggling full-time day jobs. Santamaria and Doyle, who opened Second Self last year, have said they aren’t interested in making the next best style of whatever beer is trending. More intriguing, is to build recipes around a flavor profile, one that’s often inspired by food. We can attest: Second Self beers make for excellent pairings at the dinner table.
