Marietta’s Great Locomotive Chase

Thursday, it’s the re-premiere of the 1956 movie “The Great Locomotive Chase,” complete with a red carpet event and Southern reception for VIP ticket holders, organ recital piping tunes from the Civil War era and a champagne and dessert reception ($75, VIP ticket; $35, General Admission). On Friday, April 13, there’s no chance of bad luck with Civil War Home Front Days, a “Technology during the Civil War” event, “Homes & Heroes of the Civil War Exhibit,” Historic Marietta Trolley Tours, book signing with Clint Johnson – Civil War historian and author, performance of the play “Flyin’ West” and a showing of “The General.” Similar events continue Saturday with the addition of the Marietta Square Farmers’ Market, a Living History on the Marietta Square featuring characters from the Locomotive Chase, a Civil War Music Concert featuring the 8th Regiment Band of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry and the “Texas III and Me Tour: From the Rails to the Road” which takes place aboard the Texas III, a replica of the original Texas, the chase locomotive. A 1 p.m. statue dedication at the Marietta Confederate Cemetery will be the highlight of Sunday, as the Civil War weekend wraps up.
