Classic advertisements from the magazine’s first decade
Muse’s, the hometown store, defined mens fashion for decades. This is an ad from 1967.

The famous round bank building was opened by Trust Company (now SunTrust) in 1962 and designed by architect Henry Jova. It later became the Piebar pizza restaurant.

Eastern Airlines was based in Miami, but closely identified with Atlanta, where it had a major hub and presence. The airline shut down in the early 1990s.
The Forward Atlanta campaign promoted Atlanta as a great place to do business. Forward Atlanta ads ran in national publications, and were reprinted in Atlanta magazine so its readers could stay abreast of the campaign. The magazine was launched by the Chamber of Commerce around the same time, also intended to promote the city.
Regensteins was a beloved source for fashion. Shoppers would drive from across the Southeast to visit the store.
Hometown airline Delta touted itself as “the one with the BIG jets.” The Atlanta airport’s jet terminal was opened in May 1961, the month the magazine was launched.
The Ivan Allen company has been a fixture on the Atlanta business scene since it was founded in 1902. When this ad ran in the April 1966 issue, namesake Ivan Allen Jr. was into his second term as Atlanta’s mayor.
The Atlanta Howard Johnson’s motel touted its proximity to the Atlanta stadium, which was completed in 1965. This ad is from the August 1966 issue.
The Equitable Building opened in 1968, on the site of the legendary Piedmont Hotel.

Air-conditioning is often credited with being a major factor for the South’s increased economic viability in the 1950s and 1960s.
