There’s always something to do in Savannah, but this weekend, “The Hostess City of the South” is putting on more events than ever. Here are some of my picks:
- Savannah Music Festival, through April 4. The largest musical arts event in Georgia, this multi-week festival offers concerts both large and small in a variety of venues. Seventeen of them take place this weekend, from Lucinda Williams at Trustees Theater on Friday night to Giants of Texas Swing (a merging of Hot Club of Cowtown and Asleep at the Wheel) at the Charles H. Morris Center on Sunday night.
- Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon & 5K, March 28. Saturday morning at 7 a.m., find a cheering spot along this course, which highlights the Historic District in all its mossy, tree-lined glory. After the race, head for Forsyth Park, where you can sip free beverages and listen to live music.
- Lowcountry Fly Fishing Expo, March 28. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or have never tied a fly, you can learn the art of Lowcountry fly fishing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oldfield Club. Presented by Savannah’s Rivers & Glen Trading Co., this event offers one-on-one casting instruction and fly-tying seminars from some of the top fly fishing professionals in the region.
