While it’s easy to think of the Atlanta BeltLine as a young person’s playground, its surrounding neighborhoods are home to many aging residents. Dr. Chivon A. Mingo, a gerontologist at Georgia State University, is leading a team of researchers to examine perceptions of the BeltLine among African Americans age 50-plus who live in the communities along the West and Southwest trails. The goal: to learn how to make the BeltLine’s trails and parks as friendly to Atlanta’s seniors as they are to its younger citizens.
