Oglethorpe University

Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is Atlanta’s only coeducational small private college, home to 1,385 diverse and eclectic students from 37 states and 30 countries. This is a university where professors know your name—and your aspirations.

Consistently ranked among top colleges, Oglethorpe’s academically rigorous programs emphasize intellectual curiosity, individual attention, close collaboration among faculty and students, and active learning in relevant field experiences. The most popular majors are biology, business, communications, psychology, and physics-engineering. Approximately 60 percent of students major in business or STEM fields. At the new Q. William Hammack, Jr. School of Business, Oglethorpe is preparing “robot-proof” business leaders who are adaptable, resilient, and prepared to reinvent themselves in a changing world.

Oglethorpe’s Atlanta Laboratory for Learning is a gateway to Atlanta and beyond, helping students to pair their classroom education with powerful real-world experiences in civic engagement, study abroad, internships, and undergraduate research. Our five global campuses in Barcelona, Cape Town, Greece, Paris, and Rome are open to any college student looking to earn summer credit.

In recent years, Oglethorpe has opened the stunning I.W. “Ike” Cousins Center for Science and Innovation, an award-winning campus center, and a 374-unit luxury residential complex with six state-of-the-art classrooms, and expanded arts and athletics facilities.

At Oglethorpe, 99 percent of students receive financial aid. In 2018, Oglethorpe launched Flagship 50, a groundbreaking merit tuition scholarship program that matches all 50 states’ flagship tuition for qualified students. Have a Hope Scholarship? Oglethorpe will double it. And, we’ll deliver on our “Petrel Promise”: Our students graduate in four years and get a job or into grad school within six months, or the fifth year is on us.

Visit our wooded campus for a tour. Take a seat at our Conant Performing Arts Center, presenting student theater and musical productions as well as professional performances throughout the year. Attend an exhibition, lecture, or concert at the charming Oglethorpe University Museum of Art. And, cheer for our 16 Stormy Petrels teams, including baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball.
