Karen Mechanic, MD, has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2013, a Philadelphia magazine Top Doctor for 2018, and is now a 2019 Atlanta magazine Top Doctor. Dr. Mechanic got her Bachelor of Science from Yale College and her Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York.
She trained in psychiatry at Yale and was a chief resident in the clinical neuroscience research unit. She is board certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine. Dr. Mechanic has held academic leadership appointments at Yale, University of Pennsylvania, and Temple and Thomas Jefferson medical schools. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at both Emory and Morehouse.
Dr. Mechanic is also the director of women’s services at Ridgeview Institute in Smyrna. This program focuses on high quality therapeutic services to assist women in dealing with issues such as trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, professional and personal stress, substance use, and disordered eating symptoms. She provides psychiatric care at Psychiatric Consultants of Atlanta alongside Dr. Bryon K. Evans, who is the clinical director and CEO of Psychiatric Consultants of Atlanta.
Dr. Evans completed his training in adult psychiatry at New York University Medical Center in New York City, his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and his forensic psychiatry fellowship at Emory University. Dr. Evans was certified in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry.
Dr. Evans has served as medical director, service director, and child and adolescent unit director for several psychiatric hospitals within the Atlanta area. He was a consulting psychiatrist and treating clinician for the National Football League. Dr. Evans is an adjunct assistant professor at Morehouse School of Medicine and is the clinical instructor for several academic institutions.
