1. Natural instincts: Chalk it up to wabi sabi. People are embracing the “imperfections” of nature, whether it’s a live edge table or knots in wood. Room & Board’s new stains, like this “Sand” color, highlight the grain of the wood.
2. Japanese Influences: Speaking of wabi sabi, Japanese touches are creeping in, like the woven paper cord in this Berkeley cabinet.
3. The blues: It started with solid navy. Now there are blue prints and wovens in shades from sky to indigo.
4. Outdoor living: Ok, this is a no brainer. But we’re loving Room & Board’s new take on the Adirondak chair. It’s curvier, made of recycled milk jugs, and it’s got a bottle opener under the arm rest.
5. Made by hand: Room & Board supported small American manufacturers before anyone ever used the term “maker.” Loving these crocks by Red Wing Stoneware Company, hand-blocked shades by Galbraith & Paul, and bowls by HAAND Ceramics.
Every so often we head over to Room & Board to check out their latest collections. Of course, they’ve had that midcentury modern thing down pat for years. But we were wondering: What’s next? Here’s a peek at some things we expect to see more of in the coming months. Thanks to Sandra Pawliger for giving us the tour.
