Jaipur Living, an Atlanta-based textiles and rug company, is collaborating with local designer Michael Habachy on a rug collection inspired by the designer’s Egyptian heritage. The collection, named Gamil, which means ‘beautiful’ in Arabic, features four rugs in a neutral palette with geometric designs and organic textures. The collection launches on October 1.

According to the designer, inspiration for the collection also came from the beauty of the treasures in the Sahara Desert, including ancient ruins and monuments and the intricate details of time-worn artifacts. “I wanted to capture the essence of that beauty and translate it into something fresh and modern, yet timeless,” he said.

The rugs, made from natural undyed wool fibers, are created through a meticulous weaving process and enhanced by double-washed yarns. This technique brings out both the natural sheen and plushness of the wool, making each piece visually striking as well as luxurious to the touch.

Asha Chaudhary, chief executive officer of Jaipur Living, an Atlanta-based family-run business with roots in the centuries-old art of rugmaking, has long admired Habachy’s designs. “I met Michael years ago and was struck by his distinctive aesthetic and purpose,” she said. “His work is meaningful, with a deep connection to craft and culture, which resonates with me and aligns perfectly with our company’s philosophy.”

For Habachy, the partnership just felt right. “Our longstanding relationship, combined with Jaipur Living’s deep Atlanta roots, made this collaboration a natural evolution,” he said. “It has been rewarding to work with a company that so authentically blends artistry, ethics, and innovation. Together, we’re crafting something that reflects our values and our passion for design.”

Habachy notes that a rug often serves as the foundation for an entire room. “When designing the Gamil collection, one of my goals was to create pieces that not only transform spaces but also carry a story and a purpose.”

Jaipur Living has a new warehouse-sized showroom at 1800 Cherokee Parkway in Acworth. Although the facility is open to the public, the showroom is primarily a resource for designers and retail stores. Habachy’s ADAC showroom, Habachy Designs + Atelier, recently doubled in size and added several new brands and collections.
