Home buyers sometimes realize they are in over their heads with the number of choices they need to make for new construction and call in the big guns. In the case of a five-bedroom home in Marietta, Beth Kooby of Beth Kooby Design was tapped quickly. She was tasked with designing the entire home, including tweaking interior and exterior architectural plans, choosing finishes, selecting furniture, and more. While new builds often move slowly, Beth was on a tight deadline, thanks to the impending birth of the family’s third child. “They were moving in regardless the week of Thanksgiving,” she says. More recently, the home was sold—but with a nice testament to Beth’s initial designs: “The new owner bought everything,” she says.
In Living Color
Beth started with the client’s vision for the home: a white base with lots of color injected into furnishings and textures. “My client is a physician with three kids. She wanted the primary bath to be a calm and soothing space to escape to,” she says. However, the room also needed to be in line with the rest of the house—“serene but interesting.”
Getting Ready
The room started with the custom double vanity. Picture-frame molding continues across the front, hiding the fact that the middle panel is made up of three horizontal drawers. The blue vanity playfully picks up a deep teal shade from the primary bedroom rug.
In the Zone
The bathroom features three main zones: a walk-in shower, double vanity, and soaking tub area, all of which maximize function. Five styles of tile, including floor tiles, tub surround tiles, tub trim, shower floor tiles, and shower feature-wall tiles, bring a variety of patterns and warmth to the whiteness of the walls.
Clutter Begone
Beth’s clients liked clean countertops, so she got creative when designing the cabinetry, such as having electric toothbrushes plug into the inside of the vanity instead of being a countertop eyesore. “I laugh when people say no one’s bathroom looks tidy. Theirs does, all the time,” she says.
