Think of Design Samaritan as the TOMS of furniture restoration. For each refurbished piece that founder Paul Bowman sells, he donates at least one more to families transitioning out of homelessness. These contributions aren’t worthless cast-offs, he stresses; they’re sturdy pieces that he’s restored with care. “We give these families something that could be a new heirloom piece,” he says. “It’s like a metaphor that symbolizes their own transformation.”
Bowman collects well-made vintage pieces that can be refinished, repurposed, or updated—from lamps to case goods—and sells his work online and at two Atlanta stores: Verde Home and Made Again.
