Our mission is to serve those who serve us—every day. The Giving Kitchen (GK) provides emergency assistance to restaurant workers through financial support and a connection to community resources. In creating a restaurant community where crisis is met with compassion and care, GK promises stability for restaurant workers.
GK grew out of a beyond-expectation response to the devastating stage-four cancer diagnosis of Chef Ryan Hidinger in December 2012. The response to Ryan’s diagnosis—initially from friends within the restaurant industry, and then quickly from an ever-expanding community across Atlanta—was truly heroic: an outpouring of love and financial support to help with his expenses not covered by insurance and to support his wife, Jen, while she cared for him. The community’s overwhelming response to the Hidingers’ crisis set the intent, beliefs, and values for Giving Kitchen.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
To this day, thanks to the leadership and vision of the Hidinger family and our donors, partners, staff, and board, GK has been able to help over 1,100 restaurant workers in need of emergency assistance with over $2 million dollars of financial support in metro Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, and Rome. GK’s shift starts when theirs can’t. Donate today.
