MISSION
Since we first opened our doors more than 146 years ago, we have always had the same core passion of fighting for our city’s most vulnerable and defenseless. We were founded with a focus on women, children, and animals, but this shifted over time as we targeted our expertise to help our community’s animals. As companion animals became more common, our services grew to match their needs and the needs of their adopted families. Today, we continue to open our hearts to thousands of dogs and cats each year—whether we’re connecting them with loving homes, fighting on their behalf, or providing expert care.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
We’re a no-kill shelter that provides safe haven for thousands of animals each year, and we rely on our community’s support to save their lives. We steward your donation to make the largest impact on our city so that your donation means more care, more support, and more homes for our city’s animals.
