Michel Smith Boyd can walk to Ashley Point from his own home. “I’m actually adding value to my neighborhood,” he says. “I love the idea of that.”
Boyd, who grew up in a small town in Louisiana, says that most people call his work “glam,” and he won’t dispute that. “My intent is always to get as many layers, especially textiles, living harmoniously together as I can,” says the former model. “It’s how I communicate luxury.” That doesn’t mean he can’t work within a budget, though. “My upbringing created an amazing foundation for and appreciation for what I do,” Boyd explains. “I understand what needs to work for families—practicality—in addition to what’s stunning.”
He had a jewel box in mind when he designed this master suite. “We need to flex our design muscles,” he says. “It is a showhouse, after all!”
