June’s been an exceptionally busy month for film and television production in Atlanta. We’ve got a full house of movies, shows, and everything in between. Here’s what we saw and where we saw it.

Lovecraft Country (production code: RP) is a new series being shot currently for HBO. It’s being produced by Jordan Peele, Misha Green, J.J. Abrams, and Ben Stephenson. The show is based on a novel of the same name, written by Matt Ruff. In it, a man travels across America in the 1950s, encountering not only racism, but Lovecraftian monsters (think: Cthulhu) as well. We first saw signs of production for this series in Newnan on June 6. The series continued to film there between the 10th and the 11th. Signs were placed at I-285 and Bouldercrest Road in Gresham Park on June 15. On June 17, crews were spotted back in Newnan. A basecamp was seen at Newnan High School on June 21. More signs were up in Covington along Flat Shoals Road on the 23rd. The next day, filming returned once more to Newnan. Lovecraft Country stars Johnathan Majors, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Wunmi Mosaku, Aunjanue Ellis, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Abbey Lee.

Also new this month, Waldo (WDO), a feature film starring Charlie Hunnam, Mel Gibson, Eiza Gonzalez, and Dominic Monaghan. Waldo is about a former police officer who resigned in disgrace. After moving to the woods in search of a more peaceful life, he’s recruited by a private eye to help investigate a murder. This film was spotted around Arabia Mountain near Lithonia on June 6. Crews were also seen in the area on June 13. Filming took place near the Riverside area on the 17th. June 18 took the production back out to Arabia Mountain. Most recently, a restaurant scene was shot in Tucker at the Blue Ribbon Grill on Lavista Road.

Greenland (GLD) is a thriller starring Gerard Butler that’s recently begun production. The film will follow a family struggling to survive after a major natural disaster. Filming has taken place mostly in Marietta thus far, with signs up near the square from June 18.

Ron Howard is directing a new film, Hillbilly Elegy (IVAN), in Atlanta staring Gabriel Basso, Amy Adams, Haley Bennett, and Glenn Close. Based on the memoir of venture capitalist J.D. Vance, the film tells the story of Vance’s Appalachian upbringing. A scene was shot in Clayton County on June 11. Additional signs were up in North Druid Hills near Oglethorpe University on June 13 and 14.

Brockmire (B4) recently started shooting for its upcoming fourth season. The Hank Azaria-led series was in Dunwoody on June 18 and at SunTrust Park on the 24th.

A series produced for BYUtv, a channel owned and operated by Brigham Young University, has moved from Utah to Atlanta due to our tax credits. Dwight in Shining Armor (DISA) is about a modern day teen who stumbles across a princess who had been magically sleeping for 1,000 years. The show has been spotted throughout the month, on June 5, 11, 12, 17, and 18, in Paulding County, mostly near Hiram.

The Conjuring 3 (C3) continued to film in June, shooting at the Cheshire Inn on the 13th, and in Stone Mountain Park on June 14, 17, and 18. Signs for the horror film were placed along Piedmont Road near I-85 on June 19. On the 24th, crews were out in Griffin.

HBO’s Watchmen (CHAR) filmed a lot this month as well. After ending May in Macon, the series shot overnight in downtown Decatur between June 3 and 4. Netflix’s Ozark (KRAZO) also marched along with its third season. The Jason Bateman-led series finished out May in East Point before returning to sound stages in Norcross on June 5. On the 6th, evidence of production was spotted both downtown near the Gold Dome and in Decatur. The next day, crews were working in Stone Mountain. June 9 took the series to Woodstock and to Flowery Branch on the 15th. Between June 16 and 17, filming took place inside Stone Mountain Park. For the following four days, production returned to the Norcross stages. On June 21, however, crews were back in Stone Mountain. Since then, the show has mainly been back in Norcross.
