On August 23, regional designers will send their latest collections down a runway at W Atlanta–Buckhead. This is the first big event put on by Ragtrade, a local group aiming to stage fashion events with some sticking power. “We want to stand out from the other fashion events that come and go,” says Angela Watts, who cofounded Ragtrade with Katie Kern. So they teamed up with the City of Atlanta, Stila Cosmetics, and Bauder College.

Ragtrade (another word for the garment business) will feature Nicole Houston, a Charlotte fashion week winner; Edmond Newton, from NBC’s Fashion Star; Larika Page (look pictured here), a Charleston fashion week winner; Natt Taylor, who showed at Harlem’s Fashion Row; and Anna Toth, this year’s Charleston fashion week champ—as well as the work of Bauder’s senior class. “We want to show we do have a fashion industry here and we do have talent,” says Watts. ragtradeatlanta.com
