Food Network star and self-described coffee curmudgeon Alton Brown started drinking coffee in grade school. Where in Atlanta can a coffee purist find shops that care about their beans without unwittingly subjecting its guests to a Portlandia sketch? Brown and another outspoken coffee evangelist, Jason Dominy, who previously worked with Batdorf & Bronson, spill the beans.

Next week, Atlanta's Batdorf & Bronson and St. Louis' Kaldi's Coffee Roasting Company will launch a new blend of coffees from Guatemala San Pedro and Guatemala Finca El Valle. This collaboration or, as they're calling it, "Collabrewation" seems to be an innovative new step in coffee culture, bringing two roasters together to create a new kind of specialty roasting partnership.

I stopped by to check out the progress on the second location of Cacao Atlanta Chocolate Co. at 2815 Peachtree Road in Buckhead. Bad news first: It won’t be open in time for the Valentine’s Day chocolate run (though the original Inman Park store is certainly cranking out truffles nonstop these days; try the brand-new cherry cordials). The good news? This place is going to be stunning, and will encourage lingering more than the tiny, hidden Inman Park shop.
