46. Explore Edgewood Avenue on a Saturday

Fortify yourself with a basket of chicken at Harold’s Chicken & Ice Bar—and don’t forget the hot sauce.

22. Drink up at our defining bars

Start easy with a sherry cobbler—the subtly sweet, low-octane cocktail of the moment—at H. Harper Station, housed in a former train depot in Reynoldstown. Head over to Poncey-Highland to eavesdrop on the journalists and politicos at Manuel’s Tavern and sip a SweetWater 420.

A mission to save Mondays at Monday Night Brewing

Local beer drinkers have fallen for Monday Night Brewing’s trifecta: the Eye Patch Ale IPA, the Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale, and the Fu Manbrew Belgian-style Wit, and the same is true of the brewery itself. Located off Howell Mill Road on the Westside, the company founded by Jeff Heck, Joel Iverson, and Jonathan Baker is a great post-work hangout, just as it was when the trio began brewing beer about seven years ago in the garage. A self-described group of white-collar guys with ties, they eventually followed their hearts (and palates), trading in the buttoned-up collars for the business of brew.

NovemBEER Fest comes to Buckhead Theatre

This Saturday, Buckhead Theatre will be rocking—but with a festival, not your average show. NovemBEER Fest is upon us, bringing more than one hundred beers, three live music stages, food, and oh yeah, college football.

Bosom Buds auction comes to Atlanta Beer Week

The Georgia Ale and Lager Sirens (GALS), an education and advocacy group for women interested in craft beer, are bringing the breasts to Atlanta Beer Week. Founders Jennifer O’Connell and Kimberly Charles will host Bosom Buds at 5 Seasons Westside, a bachelor-style live auction benefitting the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition Fund. The event will feature DJ Rich Sullivan (formerly of Dave FM) as auctioneer and performances by Syrens of the South.

SweetWater goes Deutsch with Danktoberfest

This week marks the release of SweetWater Brewery’s Danktoberfest, the latest in the Dank Tank series of rare yet popular limited-release brews. The Dank is indeed a tank at the brewery, set aside for specific pet projects — high alcohol, big flavor, and big-bodied beers that reflect whatever itch the brewers want to scratch. Last year we saw a double red ale in Fresh Sticky Nugs, as well as Ghoulash, whose undefined style is still being debated.

Sweet Dreams

First the governor arrived, aides in tow. Later came the mayor, riding in a black SUV with tinted windows. There were state officials, city council members, and local TV stations, illuminated in a dazzle of flash photography.

5 Seasons Brewing

Before the craft beer craze ignited, the original Prado location of 5 Seasons Brewing (which opened in 2001) reigned as leader of the local cult of hops.

5 Seasons Brewing, Westside and Alpharetta

These two 5 Seasons locations have a different brewmaster: co-owner Crawford Moran, who previously ran Atlanta’s defunct Dogwood Brewing Co. He runs with his adventurous streak, successfully experimenting with beers aged in wine and whiskey barrels and regularly offering gluten-free pale ale.

Ale Yeah!

This small store dedicates its meticulously stocked and organized shelves solely to craft beer. The ardent staff members talk with aficionados or newbies without being condescending or overly agog.
