Dining rooms today seem louder than ever, boasting all the acoustics of a shipping container. We turned to local designers for an explanation and determined that the problem is multifaceted, rooted in design trends, dining preferences, and economic conditions.

We’re loving the mix of bars now rounding out the galleries, lofts, and designer retailers along Marietta Street and Howell Mill Road. Keep it classy at Cooks & Soldiers or Bocado, serving Basque hard cider and craft cocktails, respectively.

Amer cocktail bar, a partnership between Bocado founder Brian Lewis and beverage director David Durnell, will open in Inman Quarter in early November with gourmet bar snacks and a 25-drink cocktail list.

Kitchens breed two kinds of burgers: There’s the thick single patty—a backyard classic that’s tossed on a grill and singed by fire. And then there’s the thin double patty that sizzles and sears on a flattop, its edges all crisp and crunch.

Historians can argue whether it was the French or Belgians who first dropped raw potatoes into a vat of hot oil, but fries today are the life partner to the American hamburger.

In its finest moments, the Bocado burger is king. A blend of short rib, chuck, and brisket, the double patties are crispy on the edges, bursting with juices, and gooey with Kraft American cheese.

Bocado owner Brian Lewis is capitalizing on the attention his famous burger has brought to the small Westside restaurant. He’ll be opening Bocado Burger Bar in Alpharetta’s Avalon complex mid-October and is working on negotiating a lease for a new beverage concept in Inman Park, tentatively scheduled to open in January 2015.

When Krog Street Market opens later this summer, Todd Ginsberg of the General Muir will have not one but two restaurants inside. Along with partners Ben and Jennifer Johnson and Shelley Sweet, Ginsberg will operate a sandwich counter service, Fred’s Meat & Bread, and an Israeli-themed restaurant, Yalla.
