Alon’s Bakery & Market in Dunwoody recently installed a new wood burning pizza oven and now offers weekly all-you-can-eat pizza nights from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Monday. The cost is $12 per adult and free for children four and younger.

If you ask Carvel Gould to recall one important dish from her childhood, she might tell you about sitting at the table with her grandmother, picking meat from crabs. While the executive chef of Canoe is a seventh-generation Atlantan hailing from Buckhead, this culinary memory comes from the sandy beaches of South Carolina during the family’s annual summer vacation.

It was a Friday evening commute spent in classic, nerve-jangling Atlanta traffic. The speed-stop-speed-stop flux of cars extended straight from Downtown into the parking lot of Canoe in Vinings, where valet attendants conducted drivers with Wagnerian fervor. My dining comrades were still stuck on the highway; the woman at the hostess station suggested I wait for them at the new outdoor bar.
