MomoCon started 14 years ago as a tiny event at Georgia Tech. Now the convention draws more than 30,000 attendees and is aimed at a younger audience more focused on anime and video games than its mammoth sister convention, Dragon Con.

Despite several relocations, the ascendance of Amazon, and the yearly pop-up Halloween superstores, Costumes Etc has been an Atlanta mainstay for more than 25 years. Its formula? A massive inventory (55,000 items) and solid customer service.

With Dragon Con 2017 behind us, it’s time to look back the wonderfully creative, masterfully sewed, and outright hilarious cosplay. Among this year's costumes: Game of Thrones, Wonder Woman, Luke Cage, Star Wars, Doctor Strange, the Legend of Zelda, and more.

After Saturday's annual Dragon Con parade, we talked with some of the convention's youngest costumed heroes, villains, and sidekicks.

Atlanta's annual celebration of all things geek turned 30 this year, drawing an estimated 75,000 fans into downtown over Labor Day weekend. As usual, the cosplay was impressive, the crowds were monstrous, and the people-watching was unparalleled as we wandered the host hotels for some 45 hours over the course of four days.

Why the obsession? Sure, it’s fun to impress the throngs at the annual parade. Better still to one-up your peers in the hotel lobby. But ultimately, Dragon Con is about community, from Avengers to zombies.

This year’s Dragon Con drew an estimated 70,000 worshipers of geek culture to downtown Atlanta, accompanied by a plethora of impressive costumes, celebrity guests, and of course, street-jamming crowds. So what were the hottest cosplay characters, coolest Easter eggs, and most-welcome surprises?

As the rain started pouring down on Peachtree Street, the entrants in Saturday’s Dragon Con Cosplay Contest prepared to strut across the stage while a sold-out house of fans, many soggy from waiting outside, filed into a Hyatt convention room to watch.
