The largest free-standing bird sculpture in the world is about to rise up in front of the Atlanta Falcons' new home: Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Falcons recently released a virtual flyover of the new stadium that looks like it must’ve cost at least as much as one of the proposed PSLs. (And just in case they can’t sell a PSL, there’s a 15-second ad preceding the video.) The 3-minute, 30-second 3-D tour will leave you wowed and a bit dizzy. So we broke down the highlights:
Wednesday’s Atlanta Press Club luncheon with the leaders of the new Falcons stadium was supposed to be a sort of subdued self-congratulation on the construction feat already underway. Almost all of the answers were built around phrases like “world-class,” “game changer,” “next level,” and things that “nobody else in the country/world is doing.” The halo scoreboard that will be larger than God was mentioned a time or two.
This morning, the Georgia Supreme Court heard arguments on whether or not the city’s issuance of $200 million worth of bonds to help fund the $1.2 billion retractable-roof facility is constitutional.
Earlier today, Common Cause Georgia Executive Director William Perry stood on the steps of Atlanta City Hall to announce plans to use a little-known ordinance to compel the city to hold a public referendum that would allow voters to overturn the council’s April approval of a financing deal for the new Falcons stadium.
Gov. Nathan Deal's refusal to accept an expansion of Medicaid, or to set up a health insurance exchange in Georgia as required by the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare) aren't new news. Deal made it clear he'd reject an expansion of Medicaid not long after the Supreme Court's ACA ruling made it easier for states to decline. And Deal telegraphed his decision about exchanges for months before he made it official on November 16.
