Well, one thing you conclude watching the PR extravaganza that is "Atlanta: A Visual Postcard," is that everyone had really long attention spans back in the day. Who'd sit through fifteen minutes of chamber of commerce fluff today? Yeah, I thought so.

Thanks to a pair of Facebook fan surveys and a few long overdue arm wrestling bouts with Midtown parking purveyors, the Fox Theatre’s 2013 Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival could be the Atlanta landmark’s most ambitious movie series in years. When discounted advance tickets go on sale Friday morning at 10 via the Fox’s website, movie fans will see a more stream-lined line up: Friday nights will be devoted to action flicks, Saturday offerings will be date night and family friendly with Sundays reserved for revered classic films.

The ladies-lounge chairs are exact replicas of those in the throne room of King Tut’s tomb. You’ve probably taken such details of the Fox Theatre for granted, but won’t after signing up a guided tour.

On Tuesday, taking a break from staging yet another warmed over musical based on a 1980s popcorn flick, the Fox Theatre announced a booking that will finally rival 2011's Charlie Sheen's "Violent Torpedo of Truth" tour in terms of sheer hot messiness. On April 20 at 8 p.m, the Fox (presumably) proudly presents convicted rapist, "The Hangover" punchline and former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson starring in his one-man show "Mike Tyson: The Undisputed Truth" live on stage at the Atlanta landmark.

In an email sent to press this week announcing the 2012 Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival series, Fox Theatre general manager Allan C. Vella promises a "mix of classic and contemporary movies which gives everyone the opportunity not just to see a great film but to have a true movie going experience in the luxurious setting of the Fox Theatre."

Up the three flights of stairs leading from the Fox Theatre's backstage area to the "Wicked" cast dressing rooms, dozens and dozens of black clips have been taped to the yellow-hued walls. A box of Sharpie markers is strategically taped at each landing. During each performance of the Tony-winning musical "Wicked" (running through Oct. 9 at the Fox), show posters are affixed to each clip and in between wardrobe changes, vocal warm ups and listening for entrance cues, each cast member autographs each poster on the way up or down the stairs. By the end of the touring production's run here next month, the cast will have signed approximately 1,000 posters as part of an ongoing fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
