Setbacks and delays are a common theme in the restaurant industry. The winding permitting process, construction mishaps, and other unforeseen circumstances often push back the opening day for months. We checked in with four local restaurants—Staplehouse, the Cockentrice, the Little Tart Bakeshop, Gu’s Dumplings—for an update on their progress.

Gu’s Dumplings, an offshoot of Gu’s Bistro on Buford Highway, will open in Krog Street Market in September or October. The 600-square-foot market stall won’t have any seating. Instead, it’ll offer an abbreviated menu of ten or so primarily vegetarian dishes that can be eaten at the market tables or on the go.

Set to open in March in the Krog Street Market, Fred’s Meat & Bread will be the newest eatery by the General Muir team, chef Todd Ginsberg, Shelley Sweet, and Ben and Jennifer Johnson. Jonah Merrell, previously of Bacchanalia and Star Provisions, will be chef de cuisine. The 600-square-foot counter service restaurant will offer burgers, fries, and sandwiches, including po’ boys, cheesesteaks, and banh mi, with with meals averaging $10 or less.
