Though it once was used as a courtesy make-shift space for the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District's Ambassador Task Force, the 80-year-old building needed major upgrades in order to become attractive to modern tenants.

In April 1985, C&S donated the property to the Atlanta Historical Society. The building was then leased for 25 years and slowly fell into disrepair. On Nov. 22, 2011 the old Hillyer became the home of new owner’s breensmith Advertising. After months of renovation breensmith moved into the new office.
Bittersweet Auburn
For the second time in twenty years, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has put the Sweet Auburn district—once Atlanta’s center of African American business and culture—on its “endangered” list.
