Most Saturdays, Hans Troyer, a professional ultramarathon runner, does loops of Pine Mountain. He summits 11 times in 4 hours, covering 25 miles and 7,395 vertical feet. His consistent training here has helped him burst onto the running scene. Most pros train in the mountains of California or Colorado, but Hans grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta and found his stride living out of a camper in the Georgia woods.

There are dozens of private islands scattered off the coast of Florida. The Willifords have owned one of them for almost 30 years.

On February 29, more than 700 athletes will toe the starting line in Atlanta for the 2020 Olympic Team Trials Marathon. Among the hopefuls is 31-year-old Bridget Lyons Belyeu, a member of the Atlanta Track Club elite team whose 2:31 qualifying time puts her among the fastest 25 women in the field. Her feat is especially impressive given that Belyeu is an amateur athlete and working dentist. Here’s how the top runner has been preparing for the event.

Some may say that marathon running is a younger person’s pursuit, but should that automatically stop you from training for your first marathon in your 50s, 60s, or later? The answer, from a trio of Atlanta-area running coaches? Nope.

“Don’t poop your pants.”This certainly is sage advice, though I’ll admit I was surprised to see it imparted on a handwritten sign, held up by a spectator, at the Publix Half-Marathon this past Sunday.
