Steve Palmer of Indigo Road Restaurants is consulting on a new food hall called Main & Main, opening on the corner of Peachtree and 14th streets in the summer of 2019. His first concept will be a fast-casual stall called Sukoshi.

Peachtree meets 14th Street has the potential, in the eyes of developers, to become the “Main and Main” intersection Atlanta lacks. These builders and their lending partners hope to capitalize on a construction boom to transform this former geographical afterthought into a combination of epicenter and living room—a beating heart where culture and commerce converge.

As managing partner at North American Properties, Toro has a reputation as a developer who sets ambitious targets and hits them.

The $600 million project, which will eventually consume 86 acres off Georgia 400 in Alpharetta, has been flashy from the start (the grand-opening gala last October lasted four days). And Toro’s mission—to break the mold of traditional suburban cul-de-sacs and strip malls in favor of a dense, walkable “urbanburb”—has clearly struck a chord.

This is a historic chapter in MARTA’s history: the first major expansion in four decades. Much of the credit goes to the transit authority’s general manager and CEO Keith Parker, who joined MARTA in December 2012 when the agency was beleaguered with a fiscal crisis and plummeting ridership.
