What does Facebook Graph say about Atlanta stereotypes?

The social media site rolled out its robust search tool to the public last Monday. For those unfamiliar, this is kind of like Big Brother—if your brother really cared about how much you watch 'The Walking Dead' or wanted to razz you about listening to Zac Brown. You've probably already noticed the new search bar at the top of Facebook.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers set to soar to the big screen

Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Ted Turner’s favorite cartoon series is about to soar to life as a live action flick on the big screen, thanks to Sony Pictures. The Hollywood studio is in final talks to acquire the rights to the 1990s environmental 'toon series starring the eco superhero (whose powers apparently include recycling an algae-hued “business in the front, party in the back” hairdo). The series, created by Turner and his then in house environmental team at Turner, (including Captain Planet’s mom Barbara Pyle) was an attempt to work environmental themes into an action-packed cartoon series to bring awareness to the earth’s eco challenges to the Nirvana generation.

Name + Name = TNT’s formula for success

When TNT added King & Maxwell to its lineup this month, the detective show joined two-name titles Rizzoli & Isles and Franklin & Bash in our hometown network’s stable of original programming. Here are some other dual monikers TNT might want to pick up for future dramas.

Exit interview with Vikki Locke: “I don’t want to do this anymore”

As B98.5-FM morning show host Vikki Locke clicks off the microphone for the last time this morning after a 28-year run on Atlanta’s airwaves, she’s leaving behind a radio industry much different than the one she entered as an Ohio State University journalism graduate back in 1985. During her nearly 20-year reign at Star 94 with partner Steve McCoy, you could invite a superstar listener like Elton John, who lived down the street from the station, on air for an extended chat and to spin his favorite songs. In 2013, morning show talent is advised to keep the chatter to under two minutes, edit your interviews in advance and spin Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister” ad nauseam.

Tweets of the Day: Paula Deen edition

The National Enquirer got the scoop, but since then everyone from the American Bar Association Journal to Gawker jumped on details revealed in a video deposition given by celeb chef Paula Deen in a harassment suit filed by a former employee. The butter-loving cook’s reported admissions that, “of course,” she’s used the N-word in the past, and she once pondered hosting a plantation-themed wedding, understandably, set both legacy media and social media aflame.

The Atlanta location missing in Anchorman 2

Like any obsessed Atlantan, I scanned the latest Anchorman 2 trailer to spot scenes of our fair city, which doubled as both San Diego and New York City during the movie’s filming here. But what really struck me is a notable Atlanta absence.

Evidently Atlanta is the worst city for newspapers

In case you missed it—and you probably did, because as you’ll soon learn, Atlantans don’t read much news—Atlanta is the worst city in the country for newspaper readership.

Bad joke

Knock-knock.

Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul loves us!!!!!

Life right now is kind of like a countdown to the premiere of the final season of "Breaking Bad" on August 11. But some Atlantans haven't had to wait that long for a glimpse of Aaron Paul (who plays the show's meth-addled but loveable Jesse Pinkman), who's been in town filming a movie about fast cars called "Need for Speed."

What’s Atlanta watching?

Everyone’s fretting about U.S. government surveillance of phone calls and Facebook, but what about spying by YouTube? The YouTube Trends blog includes an interactive map that shows the three most popular videos on any given day in 150 regions throughout the United States–among them Atlanta. We wondered just what this monitoring might reveal, so we asked YouTube to track Atlanta’s top picks for the past week. It all feels a bit random to us, so maybe you need to be an intelligence agent to find a pattern in the following:
