On any warm, sunny day in Atlanta, this rail corridor-turned-public trail is packed with families pushing strollers and walking dogs, runners getting in a quick workout, and cyclists testing out the city's Relay bikeshare program.

With its new brewery, the Garage, expected to open in late September, Monday Night Brewing has given itself a complete makeover, switching from bottling to canning for most of its beers, redesigning the packaging, introducing two new brews, and retiring two old favorites.

Then, this past spring semester a capstone team of five mechanical engineering seniors from Tech, calling itself “Monday Night Variety Hour,” found a way to quickly, and cheaply, solve a conundrum for MNB: How to speed up the assembly of variety 12-packs.

There will be much at stake later this year when Monday Night Brewing opens its ambitious second facility along with other tenants in a cavernous warehouse at the corner of Lee and White streets alongside a newly completed stretch of the Atlanta BeltLine.

Aesthetically speaking, Monday Night is arguably the best tasting room inside the city of Atlanta. The beer is priority number one, of course, but a pleasant vibe—ambient lighting, cozy café-like seating, lots of room—is also wonderful.

When Atalanta, the popular tart plum saison created by Orpheus Brewing on the eastern edge of Midtown, first went into cans in early 2014, it earned itself a footnote in Georgian brewing history as the state’s first packaged, commercially available sour beer.

Local beer drinkers have fallen for Monday Night Brewing’s trifecta: the Eye Patch Ale IPA, the Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale, and the Fu Manbrew Belgian-style Wit, and the same is true of the brewery itself. Located off Howell Mill Road on the Westside, the company founded by Jeff Heck, Joel Iverson, and Jonathan Baker is a great post-work hangout, just as it was when the trio began brewing beer about seven years ago in the garage. A self-described group of white-collar guys with ties, they eventually followed their hearts (and palates), trading in the buttoned-up collars for the business of brew.
