When Alon Balshan left Israel, he was 25 years old and his bank account—which was his pocket—contained 500 American dollars. He made his way to Atlanta and, in 1992, opened his bakery in Morningside. We talked to Balshan about his culinary roots and his time in the South.
Pizzaiolo Luca Varuni is opening a second location of his acclaimed Morningside pizza spot in Krog Street Market. Located in the back corner of the market near Ticonderoga Club, Varuni Napoli Krog will offer a menu similar to the original, but with smaller, individual-sized pies.
For years the Morningside split-level had sat empty, but its dated look didn’t scare Beth Kooby. In fact, she had been “stalking” it for a while. “I’m more than happy to buy somebody’s dump,” says the interior designer. “I’m a serial remodeler.”
