Eats owner Bob Hatcher says goodbye to his beloved meat-and-three after 32 years

After 32 years, meat-and-three spot Eats is closing. Known for its jerk chicken and affordable prices, this unassuming restaurant on Ponce opened in 1993 and has been one of the few old-time holdouts amid the development of the Beltline and Ponce City Market. Here, owner Bob Hatcher reminisces about the origin of Eats and shares insight into his future.

Motorboat is making waves (and sandwiches) on Ponce

Voluptuous babes with knowing smiles are hard to escape at Motorboat, a water sports–themed sandwich shop and deli on Ponce de Leon Avenue. Baywatch plays on the TVs, and the walls are covered with artwork resembling the jean shorts–clad pinups painted on the side of fighter jets during World War II. You either hate or love the wink.

Rejoice! The iconic Ponce Krispy Kreme returns on October 10

The Ponce location first opened in 1965 and since 2016 has been owned by basketball icon Shaquille O’Neal. In February and July 2021, the iconic shop was set on fire in a pair of still-unsolved arsons. The old building was demolished, but the original 1965 historic sign was saved and has been fully refurbished. For generations of Atlantans, the Krispy Kreme location, along with its signature marquee on Ponce is etched into the city’s history.

With its recognizable logo in St. Patrick’s Day font, those simple but wonderful green awnings, and that chatty, sweet staff, Green’s operates stores across South Carolina and has two in Atlanta. But the original, and my favorite, dates back to 1937 on Ponce de Leon Avenue.
