Torchy’s Tacos promises “Damn Good” eats on the Westside

Eighteen years ago, Austin, Texas, residents got used to seeing Mike Rypka drive around on a bright red Vespa, passing out taco and salsa samples. He then set up a trailer to sell his homemade fare, and Torchy’s Tacos was born. Now, 126 brick-and-mortar locations later, Torchy’s has entered the Atlanta market with a location in the Star Metals building on the Westside. The first Torchy’s in Georgia, it offers the same “Damn Good” tacos and queso that earned the brand its following in a classy, 4,100-square-foot space with a full bar and patio.

Delbar founder invites Atlantans to Eden, a massive restaurant, speakeasy, and rooftop bar coming to Star Metals

Fares Kargar describes Eden as dark and moody with different vibes and offerings in each area. It’s inspired by pre-revolution Iran with European influences. A DJ will play nightly—their stage visible from nearly everywhere in the restaurant. Cocktails will play a large role, with 20 options in the dining room, another six or seven in the speakeasy, and 12 more on the roof. Some will include Iranian-style ingredients, such as cardamom and pistachios. Expect Old World and Mediterranean wines.

Lucky Star will open in January or February 2024 with two distinct spaces: a casual café and bar in the Star Metals lobby and a reservation-only back-room bar serving elevated cocktails designed by Kirk Gibson (the Giving Kitchen).
