Dallas celebrates 2nd season pickup with July 4 marathon, Braves Dogs come home

Even as an oily octogenarian, J.R. Ewing can lasso TV ratings. Only three weeks into the reboot of former 1970s, 1980s and 1990s CBS primetime sudser’s run on Atlanta-based TNT, the basic cable network has green lit a 15-episode second season of the show slated to air in the summer of 2013.

At 80, Larry Hagman remains devilish as J.R. scores a scheming son in TNT’s Dallas relaunch

TNT pulls off the seemingly impossible with its stylish relaunch of the “Dallas” franchise debuting Wednesday night at 9 p.m.on the Atlanta-based basic cable drama network — it immediately sucks you back into the original show’s nonsensical whirlpool of greed, illicit affairs, oil and real estate. But it’s a guilty pleasure with a legacy and soul.

RHOA Recap: Kim’s capacity for compassion is called into question (long distance!)

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” Episode 414: “No Bones About It” recap:As our weekly postdoctoral research into alcohol-enhanced anger management therapy opens, Phaedra Parks, NeNe Leakes, Sheree Whitfield, Kandi Burruss, Cynthia Bailey and interloping ex-con “RHOA” wannabe Marlo Hampton are still in South Africa and absorbing the life lessons provided by their field trip to the AIDS afflicted orphanage.

TCM announces March 3 season premiere for The Essentials with Drew Barrymore

Golden Globe winner Drew Barrymore will slide into the red leather chair opposite Robert Osborne for the first time beginning March 3 when Turner Classic Movies debuts Season 12 of "The Essentials" with an airing of Billy Wilder's iconic 1959 comedy "Some Like It Hot" and a late night presentation of Rob Reiner's 1985 cult classic "This is Spinal Tap." Praises Barrymore of the heavy metal musical satire: "I couldn't believe how groundbreaking this film was with its mockumentary style. They're really having this perfect improv. I just appreciate it more and more and more and more."

RHOA Recap: In Africa, the ladies think of others as a nation uncomfortably averts its eyes

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” Episode 413: “Make It Rain Down In Africa” recap:As our episode opens, Phaedra Parks, NeNe Leakes, Sheree Whitfield, Kandi Burruss, Cynthia Bailey and interloping ex-con “RHOA” wannabe Marlo Hampton are still mopping up from the Marlo and Sheree’s graphic recreation of the “Twilight Breaking Dawn” birthing scene. As you may recall, at the height of the diva dust up and in a grand demonstration of her cultural sensitivity and in-depth knowledge of Bravo’s target demo, the clue-impaired Marlo let fly with a certain f-word.

RHOA recap: The ladies land in Cape Town, property values plunge

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” Episode 412: “South Africa: Just Like Home” recap:As our episode opens, that clinking sound you hear is the ladies on a 16-hour flight to Cape Town, South Africa. It’s also the sound being generated at the downtown Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau as this hot mess of a reality show flies far from our fair city for 10 days. With luggage carts crammed with designer suitcases, Phaedra Parks, NeNe Leakes, Sheree Whitfield, Kandi Burruss, Cynthia Bailey and interloping ex-con “RHOA” wannabe Marlo Hampton attempt to board the airport elevators without causing the cable to snap, ending the episode before we’re even properly buzzed on our 40-gallon drum of Goldschlager. Essentially, these women have brought enough wardrobe to clothe every man, woman and child living in South Africa.

Phaedra Parks dishes on the RHOA African season finale, living life on air

When part of your job description entails mercilessly mocking a certain Atlanta-set reality show, it's always awkward when you actually run into one of the cast members face to face. For example, when we spotted Atlanta attorney Phaedra C. Parks this week at the soiree for Georgia's 2012 Grammy nominees at the downtown W, we braced for a) a beating with a metal folding chair or b) a hug.

RHOA Recap: NeNe invites Marlo to Africa, Kroy auditions for the role of Rose Nyland

The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Episode 411: “Shaping Up and Shipping Out” recap:As this week’s clinicial study into migraine triggers opens, NeNe Leakes is visiting her budding bestie Marlo Hampton’s luxury brownstone. Apparently, the ex-con’s exposure to the criminal element while in jail made a lasting impression. Marlo has more security cameras than the High Museum of Art. This may be to protect her Imelda Marcos homage of designer shoes and handbags inside a lavish walk-in closet. Needless to say, NeNe is impressed. “I’m a shoe girl, Marlo’s a shoe girl,” she explains. “I’m 5’10”, Marlo’s 5’10”. When I walk into a room, I own it. When Marlo walks into a room, she almost own it. So, you know, we’re a great pair.”

RHOA Recap: Kim becomes a pistol-packin’ mama, NeNe seeks an AbFab nightclub

The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Episode 410: “We Come in Peace (And Packing Heat)” recap:Editor's note: On Monday, we chose to observe the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with our own public service project. Not recapping RHOA.With the NFL lockout still in place, Kim Zolciak and her Atlanta Falcon boy toy/baby daddy Kroy Biermann opt to while away the hours at Sharp Shooters USA in Roswell. In an effort to redefine family fun, baby K.J. is with them. As they arrive with tot in tow, the sole female employee at Sharp Shooters USA is silently paraphrasing Reese Witherspoon’s dialogue from “Sweet Home Alabama” (“Look at you. You have a baby. In a firing range.”). Kim instantly makes Swiss cheese out of her paper target using a variety of lethal weapons (“She’s a great shot, a real pistol-packin’ mama,” praises her instructor). Kim is hesitant about actually owning a firearm, however, until she spots a nine millimeter with a bubble gum-hued handle. “Oh, this is adorable,” she tells Kroy. “I’m excited!”

TNT orders up L.A. Noir pilot from Walking Dead’s Frank Darabont

Former "The Walking Dead" executive producer Frank Darabont's connections to Atlanta didn't end with his unceremonious Season Two ouster as boss on the Atlanta-shot hit zombie drama last year. "The Shawshank Redemption" director has now struck a deal with Atlanta's TNT to co-produce a pilot of "L.A. Noir" for the basic cable drama network. According to TNT reps, the show will be set in Los Angeles in the 1940s and 1950s and track "the epic battle L.A. police chief William Parker and mobster Mickey Cohen." The show will be a fictionalized account of author John Buntin's critically acclaimed non-fiction account of the era, "L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City."
