A new horse farm doesn't happen overnight—especially in the city. Kate Larimer wanted 15 acres of land with a pond, close to the Vinings-Smyrna area. Luckily, they found a parcel slated for a subdivision that fell through—and it happened to include 14 acres.
Energetic and experienced restaurateur Dennis Lange has created a welcoming and stylish restaurant in a sprawling condo complex near Vinings, with chef Joshua Hopkins at the helm.
Vinings has a new traditional Italian restaurant, Adalina, which has former Empire State South chef Joshua Hopkins at the helm. Candler Park's Nicholas Stinson opened Gato Nights, which is dubbed “a weekly investigation into deep regional Mexican cuisine.” And Berkeley Park welcomes Tuza, a taco shop that is an ode to Mexico City street food.
When Cathy Groome was asked to describe the style of house she wanted, “Southern-European” was the best she could come up with. But architects Craig Dixon and Todd Pritchett got it right away. The house is tucked into a wooded enclave of cottage-style homes in Vinings that Chip developed on a 2.5-acre piece of property, all with a European sensibility.
With some homes, it all begins with the view. Vicki and Allen Filstein originally thought they wanted to downsize to a condo in Midtown, but a stunning vantage point looking onto the city brought them to the Aberdeen in Vinings.

The rustic texture and toasty corn flavor of stone-ground grits bear little resemblance to the bland porridge of Jason Starnes’s youth. At South City Kitchen, he uses a 50/50 blend of earthy, yellow grits from Mills Farm in Athens and sweeter-tasting white grits from Riverview Farms in Ranger.
Canoe's menu constantly changes to take advantage of local flavors, but the smoked salmon is a permanent fixture. “That’s the one dish that has always been exactly the same,” says executive chef Matthew Basford. “It’s been on the menu the same way for 21 years.”
