Little Sparrow will officially open in the former JCT space on October 2. Inspired by Parisian bistros and old Brooklyn neighborhood taverns, it will be an American brasserie serving simple fare using premium ingredients and classic techniques.

Chicheria MX Kitchen comes from the team behind Buena Vida Tapas & Sol, Juan Sebastian Calle and Adam Berlin. A Baja-inspired spot, it’s intended to bring a new style of Mexican food to the area, focusing on nutrient-rich, vegetable-laden items made in house. Top Chef alum Whitney Otawaka consulted on the menu, which executive chef Alejandro Tamez (Otawaka’s former sous chef) will implement.

Richard Tang, owner of Korean barbecue eatery Char, Vietnamese seafood restaurant Girl Diver, and speakeasy Three Branches, is adding another name to his repertoire. Bar Diver is slated to open the third week in September in Westside Paper (950 West Marietta Street). Unlike sister spot Girl Diver, Bar Diver will be focused on small plates and feature a “cyber-punk, post-apocalyptic vibe.”

A collection of hospitality veterans have banded together to try something new. Ivan Raintung (Mulan), Bell Chabchit (Osha Thai), chef Santi Buaphaeng (Silom Thai), and executive chef Varee "Nam" Somanee (Blue Elephant Thai in Bangkok), along with Erny Liauw and Praim Siribothi, have taken over the former Chin Chin space on Howell Mill Road and turned it into a trendy spot for dining and imbibing.

In recent years, omakase around these parts has morphed into something more like a prix fixe dinner, featuring a tasting menu with sometimes as many as 22 courses. Atlanta now has at least three dedicated omakase restaurants, all within striking distance from one another on or near Howell Mill Road. More are on the way.

A bona fide delight in Edgewood, fancy pizza on the Westside, and a top-shelf cocktail bar with food to match in Reynoldstown.

A new, seasonally changing bar has risen on the Westside. Formerly Tin Tin, Spring Bar is chef Nick Leahy’s latest creation, serving small plates and specialty cocktails inspired by the seasons.

Those of us who write about food often focus on seeking out informal little joints and unheralded treasures. But, since it opened in September, I’ve heard Palo Santo described frequently enough as the “sexiest scene in town” to wonder if we’re overlooking diners’ desires for another kind of restaurant: one that dazzles its audience with a big show, creating a kind of collective, near-religious culinary experience.

Designed to be a neighborhood restaurant, Humble Pie will serve pizza, burgers, and other quintessential American fare. It's the newest restaurant from Ron Hsu and Aaron Phillips (Lazy Betty, Juniper Cafe).
